VocalLab exists because of the incredible work of open-source developers and platform creators.

We didn't build this alone — we stand on the shoulders of communities who freely share their time, skills, and creativity. We are deeply grateful. And gratitude without action doesn't feel right.

Our Commitment

Starting from our very first dollar of revenue, 2% of VocalLab's revenue will flow back to the projects and platforms that make our service possible.

This isn't charity — it's reciprocity. Supporting the tools we rely on makes the whole ecosystem stronger.

How We Split Our Contributions

Platform Support (1% of revenue)

Based on which platform brought you to VocalLab first:

Open Source Libraries (1% of revenue)

Split among the libraries that power VocalLab's core functionality:

WaveSurfer.js - Audio visualization and waveform rendering (GitHub Sponsors available)
RNNoise WASM - Neural network noise suppression in the browser
WASM Audio Resampler - High-quality audio resampling
WEQ8 - Web-based equalizer implementation

We actively reach out to library maintainers to support their preferred contribution method. When direct support isn't available, funds are contributed to related open-source initiatives or held for future opportunities.

Transparency

We believe in complete transparency about our commitments:

Public reporting: We'll publish annual summaries of our contributions
Direct donations: All contributions go directly to projects, not through middlemen
Platform tracking: We track your first platform visit to ensure accurate allocation
No strings attached: These are unconditional contributions to support ongoing development

A Note on the Bigger Picture

We know that by sharing our approach openly, other companies may start doing something similar. That's not a problem — that's the point.

When initiatives like carbon offsets and fair trade first appeared, they weren't marketing gimmicks. They were the efforts of a few pioneers trying to set a better standard. Over time, they spread — and entire ecosystems became stronger.

If our commitment inspires even one more company to support the open-source tools they rely on, then the ecosystem we all depend on will be healthier. And that's a win for everyone.

Starting from Day One

This commitment begins with our first revenue. Whether that's $10 or $10,000 in monthly revenue, 2% will flow to the community that made VocalLab possible.

We're not waiting until we're profitable or established. The community supported us from day one, and we'll support them from day one.

How Contributions Are Made

Monthly basis: Contributions calculated and made monthly based on the previous month's revenue
Direct support: We contribute directly through each project's preferred method (GitHub Sponsors, OpenCollective, direct donations)
Equal treatment: All eligible projects receive their allocated percentage regardless of size
Currency: Contributions made in USD equivalent for consistency
